The town is located along the west coast of the Salento peninsula, jutting out into the Ionian Sea, and split into two parts connected by a XVII century bridge: the village (new town) and the old town centre.
The 20 km coastline offers beautiful beaches, Torre del Pizzo, Baia Verde, Lido San Giovanni, Rivabella and Lido Conchiglie.
The town of Gallipoli hosts the St Andrea Island Regional Nature Park and Coast of Punta Pizzo.
